Global Payments & P2P
Simplifying a complex financial journey across markets
I worked across OKX's global payment and trading ecosystem, designing experiences that helped users onboard, fund their accounts, buy and sell digital assets, and complete peer-to-peer transactions.
Unlike a single-market financial product, user behavior varied significantly by country. Payment methods, currencies, regulations, financial habits, trust expectations, and levels of crypto experience all influenced how people moved through the service.
My role was not simply to redesign individual screens. I used user research, behavioral data, market analysis, journey mapping, and experimentation to understand where users struggled and translate those insights into simpler, safer, and more scalable experiences.
My Role
Turning global complexity into clear user journeys
I partnered with Product, Engineering, Data, Operations, and regional teams to understand how customers moved through the complete journey—from discovering a product and selecting a payment method to completing a transaction successfully.
My work included:
User Research · Data Analysis · Journey Mapping · Localization · Service Design · Information Architecture · Prototyping · A/B Testing · UX/UI Design · Cross-functional Collaboration
Research revealed that the challenge wasn't simply usability. Different markets required different service experiences.

Understanding the People
One global platform. Very different user behaviors.
Before designing solutions, I needed to understand how financial behavior changed across markets.
I conducted research with users across 10 countries, combining qualitative interviews with behavioral and funnel data to identify where users hesitated, abandoned transactions, or needed additional information and reassurance.
One critical finding was that approximately 70% of first-time users dropped off around the payment-method stage.
Rather than immediately redesigning the interface, I investigated why.
Was the payment method unavailable?
Did users understand what would happen next?
Did they trust the merchant?
Were payment instructions clear?
Was the transaction process too complicated?
This shifted the project from a UI problem into an end-to-end service problem.
Mapping the Journey
Looking beyond individual screens
I mapped the complete first-time P2P purchase journey:
Discover → Select Amount → Choose Seller → Select Payment → Transfer Funds → Confirm Payment → Receive Crypto
OKX P2P is particularly complex because the transaction involves several participants and systems:
Customer ↔ OKX ↔ Merchant ↔ Local Payment Provider
OKX facilitates the marketplace and provides escrow mechanisms, while customers and merchants complete payments using external banking or wallet systems. That means the user experience extends beyond the OKX interface itself. OKX
This helped us identify service gaps that weren't visible when looking at individual screens alone.
From Research to Product Decisions
Translating insights into a simpler and safer experience
Research led us to rethink several parts of the journey.
We surfaced payment information earlier, improved visibility of transaction amounts, strengthened seller trust signals, clarified educational content, made communication easier to access, and reduced unnecessary steps in the purchase flow.
The objective wasn't simply to make the interface cleaner.
It was to reduce uncertainty at the moments where users had to make financial and trust decisions.
